Body-Informed Leadership

Presence. Connection. Power.

Cultivating presence is the most powerful action a leader can make.

As a leader, there are plenty of reasons to feel overwhelmed. The pressure is mounting to take courageous, decisive action, but at the same time, familiar ways of doing business are falling by the wayside; the workforce is run ragged with increasing life stressors and relational strain; and the overwhelming pace and complexity of it all is ever more at the forefront.

It is therefore essential that leaders learn how to ‘turn down the noise’ inside themselves; to familiarise themselves with their embodied patterns of reactivity, collapse and resilience; and stay connected to the steady ground of what truly matters. These are essential guideposts for leaders navigating constant change, and the only means by which something truly new and hopeful can happen. Although the path to presence can be fraught with uncertainty, it is in fact the most courageous, fulfilling and powerful choice a leader can make.

I’m Madelanne Rust-D’Eye, a senior leadership coach and consultant.

I help leaders become more honest with themselves; to tune in to the patterns of thought, sensing, and emotion that drive their behaviour and to learn how to make the choices that cultivate more resilience, compassion, and determination. At times, this work can be quite deep. I am a practicing psychotherapist and I occasionally bring therapeutic and somatic elements into my coaching and consulting work. Always, our focus will be on leadership performance; helping you relate authentically to the pressures and intensity of being a leader in a way that brings out the best in you and the people you work with.

Over the past 10+ years, I have worked extensively with both private and third-sector organisations, providing 1-1 coaching, as well as consulting and facilitation to senior leadership teams and broader management groups. I am a member of RISE Beyond Consulting, where I’ve led substantial client accounts and served a term as a Managing Partner. I sit on the Executive Committee of the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association; and I am a Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Some Common Coaching Themes

Presence

I feel stressed out, disconnected, reactive, or overwhelmed in my role. How can I improve my quality of presence, and learn new ways to regulate and express myself?

Connection

My relationships at work are limiting, conflictual, or confusing. How can I make changes to feel better about these connections, and to develop things in a satisfying way?

Power

I don’t trust myself to wield power appropriately. I want to explore my relationship to power in a nonjudgmental space so that I can better understand my patterns, weaknesses, and strengths.

Values

I’d like to become more connected to my values: to understand what really matters to me underneath it all, and to find increased resilience and determination.
