About Madelanne Rust-D’Eye
Somatic Psychotherapist in Edinburgh and online
Madelanne Rust-D’Eye is a somatic psychotherapist who has been in private practice since 2012, in Canada, England and now Scotland. Her Master’s-level training in body psychotherapy and dance/movement therapy shapes how she listens: to what people say, and to what the body registers before the mind has caught up.
The same grounding informs her coaching of senior leaders and her mentorship of fellow practitioners. She works in person in Edinburgh and online.

An approach built on relationship
Madelanne sees herself as a co-participant in the work, not an authority standing outside it. What happens between herself and her clients, in a room or on a screen, is where the real change takes place. She aims to create an attuned, steady environment in which difficult, complex, or sensitive issues can be explored at a pace that feels safe.
Her sessions draw on her somatic training. That means paying attention to breath, posture, tension, impulse and sensation alongside words, and noticing what the body registers before the mind has caught up. Many people find this gives them a different kind of access to their own experience. For some, that includes a deeper sense of presence and awareness, which anchors their actions in the world.
Training and professional standing
Madelanne’s training is at Master’s level and combines several traditions: somatic, relational, psychodynamic, neurodevelopmental, trauma-informed and expressive arts-based. In practice, it gives her several ways into the work and the ability to tailor things to meet her client’s different needs.
MA in Somatic Counselling Psychology, Naropa University (2012), with dual concentrations in Dance/Movement Therapy and Body Psychotherapy
Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
Master Somatic Movement Educator and Therapist (MSME/T), International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association (ISMETA)
Trustee of ISMETA, serving on its Executive Committee and chairing its Global Membership and Equity, Justice and Accessibility Committees
Her work with ISMETA keeps her in regular conversation with somatic practitioners from around the world, and involved with the bigger questions the profession is facing.
How the therapy informs the wider work
Alongside her psychotherapy practice, Madelanne is a Senior Leadership and Team Development Consultant with RISE Beyond Consulting, where she has worked since 2019 and served as a Managing Partner. Her consulting has focused on collaboration and culture, including long-term work with technology, engineering and hospitality organisations.
The work and presence she cultivates in the therapy room carries into this space: how people respond under strain, how much the body registers before anyone says it aloud, and what helps a person or a group to integrate and resource themselves.
She also leads Body-Informed Leadership, which she has developed since 2016 and which explores how power is created and practised at the embodied level in individuals and groups.
How she works with people
Madelanne’s main work is somatic psychotherapy, for people working with trauma, anxiety, depression and other difficulties. She sees clients in person at The Whole Works on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, and online.
She also offers two other kinds of one-to-one work, in person and online:
Executive and leadership coaching, for senior leaders who want a thinking partner.
Mentorship, for somatic practitioners and for professionals who want to bring the body into the work they already do.
Each has its own page. If you’re unsure which fits, a first conversation is a good place to start.
